Attention is given to the ability of experts in celestial mechanics to adjust to the continuing revolution in computer technology and software invention. The importance of this problem derives from the coming of LISP machines and other personal computers, on one side of the scale, and the Josephson computer on the other. A gravitational theory of the solar system valid over the recent geological periods is seen as the next challenge in celestial mechanics.
