Scientific paper

A review of the current literature connected with "starburst" galaxies shows two widely accepted conclusions: (1) the starburst phenomenon is associated with the presence of a partner galaxy (in a collision, encounter, merger etc.); (2) the energy balance can be satisfied simply by increasing the star forming rate. Is is shown here that these assumptions deserve further inspection.
