For the HIPPARCOS mission, the Carlsberg Automatic Transit Circle (CATC) of the La Palma observatory is observing 2700 stars between 0 and -25 deg which have little or no astrometric history. The list mainly comprises BD/CD positions which have an accuracy of 1'. The CATC program also includes 143 radio stars, 858 stars for linking extragalactic sources for ground based astrometry, and 15,000 SAO stars with poor positions.
