In order to maintain homeostasis, the heart must pump blood commensurate
with the metabolic needs of the body and do so at a pressure that is
adequate to perfuse the vital organs. Basic cardiovascular physiology is
reviewed and emphasis is place on those factors that are important in
the control of cardiac output, heart rate and blood pressure.
