Carbon and nitrogen are important products of the nucleosynthesis in evolved stars. Isotopic ratios derived from pre-solar dust shows that much of the carbon dust in the early solar system came from AGB stars with high excess of 13C but a very large spread in 15N/14N ratios. Traditionally, this is assigned to J-type carbon stars but this is not well established. We proposed to measure 13C and 15N isotopic abundances in evolved stars, to test which type of stars can yield the observed isotopic ratios in pre-solar dust.
