K Giants: Carbon, K Giants: Element Abundances
Scientific paper
The authors derived a small overabundance of carbon ([C/Fe] = 0.20±0.15 with the oxygen abundance [O/Fe] = 0.1) in the atmosphere of γ1Leo, a K giant with a small deficit of metals ([Fe/H] ≍ -0.3). The estimate is based on the analysis of CH molecule lines in the blue spectral region, the dissociation potential D0(CH) was taken equal to 3.465 eV. The authors used the model atmosphere 4500/2.0/-0.3 and the lists of atomic and molecular lines from Kurucz's data bank. The oscillator strengths for the 12CH lines were refined. The carbon overabundance in the atmosphere of γ1Leo and a small nitrogen deficit found earlier ([N/Fe] = -0.1) together with a low 12C/13C ratio are in conflict with the standard theory of stellar evolution.
