The ratio of cross sections for the E1 and E2 capture amplitudes in the
reaction C-12(alpha, gamma)O-16 has been determined from gamma-ray
angular distributions obtained at E(cm) = 1.7-2.8 MeV. The results favor
a nonnegligible contribution of the E2 amplitude to the reaction rate at
stellar energies.
