The effective equation of state of a Goto-Nambu string with short-wavelength perturbations is shown to be of the constant determinant type UT = m4 not only for transversely generated perturbations, as had previously been established, but even when longitudinally generated contributions are present. It is shown that contrary to what has recently been claimed, all higher order correction terms cancel out exactly.
