Formulas relating the state of the atmosphere, the photoreceiver properties and the quality of thy telescope optics to the ability of a telescope to record weak objects are presented. An expression for evaluating the telescope operating efficiency is proposed. It is found that the use of a single mathematical tool and the characteristics of the individual components of the network make it possible to optimize astrophotographic systems in terms of resolution and efficiency. The system efficiency is found to increase in proportion to the area of the entrance pupil (often the area of the field of view) and to be inversely proportional to the area of the point source being recorded.
