Analytical relations are obtained for determining the most efficient number of control channels for an adaptive mirror, making it possible to obtain the required quality of wavefront correction, as a function of the statistical characteristics of atmospheric turbulence, angular tracking accuracy and errors in measuring phase distortions. The advisability of using separate correction for aberrations of different order in adaptive optical systems is demonstrated.
