The solubility of calcite was determined in distilled water, and in
solutions containing NaCl, NaHCO 3 and CaCl 2 alone or in certain
combinations, at temperatures near 25° and partial pressures of CO 2
in the range normal for the atmosphere. The effect of ionic strength on
the solubility was found in close accord with Debye-Hückel theory.
