This proposal will acquire data on unpolarized and polarized standard fields through the WFPC polarizing optics in order to derive a minimal calibration of the polarizarion mode. The sources of the WFPC instrumental signature are: the spurious linear polarization introduced by the OTA and by the pre-polarimeter reflections within the camera, quantum efficiency variations to light polarized in different directions, and differences in the transmissions of the 3 polacoat filters. The spurious polarization introduced by the pickoff mirror may be as large as 5% at 8000A and 2.5% at 5000A. An unpolarized field will be observed in several bandpasses through the polarizing filters to derive the transmission and the instrumental polarization. A high-polarization field will be measured in a bandpass to derive the orientation correction and estimate the polarization efficiency at that wavelength.
