High frequency modulations (about 1 MHz) of energetic (keV) electrons in the auroral ionosphere have been detected unambiguously for the first time using a novel technique. These modulations were induced by an artificially injected pulsed electron beam (8 keV, 4 percent duty cycle), and were accompanied by electrostatic wave emissions at the same frequency.
