An X-ray diffraction study of a mixture wüstite-periclase was carried out at room temperature and under hydrostatic pressures up to 83 kbar using a diamond-anvil press. The intervals (Δ x) between diffraction lines of wüstite and periclase having the same Miller index appear to decrease linearly with increasing pressure. Based on a theoretical analysis, the bulk modulus (B) of wüstite (Fe0.93O) should be at least 2% less than that of periclase. A detailed calculation yielded B0 = 1.50 +/- 0.03 Mbar and B'0 = 3.8 for Fe0.93O, assuming B0 = 1.600 Mbar and B'0 4.2 for periclase. Unlike all the values of bulk modulus for wüstile derived from X-ray diffraction studies in the literature, the present data are, more or less, independent of an equation of state.
