A self-consistent calculation of the bremsstrahlung emissivity for a hot optically thin plasma in a strong external magnetic field is presented. The emissivity is calculated for a nonthermal electron velocity distribution f\(v\). Two competing elementary processes are taken into account, i.e., Coulomb scattering and resonant cyclotron emission, which lead to a depopulation of f\(v\) above the cyclotron energy. The resulting spectra show an extremely narrow line feature at the cyclotron frequency. The total bremsstrahlung emissivity as a function of the plasma temperature and the magnetic field is also given.
