Reflection, transmission, and conversion coefficients are calculated for MHD waves incident on the ionosphere. The field in a gyrotropic nonhomogeneous ionosphere is described by integral equations whose solution is given by a series in terms of optical thickness. It is shown that the traditional approximation of a constant electric field in an optically thin ionosphere can lead to inaccurate results in a number of cases.
