The Birnbaum-Cohen lineshape function for collision-induced spectra, as modified by Frommhold, is applied to collision-induced translational scattering by CH4. Accord with the experiments is excellent and the temperature variation of the required parameters over the range 130 - 295K is consistent with physical considerations. The lineshape function is thereby shown to be useful for rapid modelling of the spectrum under various thermodynamic conditions.
