The role of relativistic off-mass-shell kinematics in the deep inelastic
scattering on deuteron is analyzed. It is shown that the relativistic impulse
approximation reproduces effects from the binding, Fermi motion, and
two-nucleon contribution. The nonrelativistic limit of the deuteron structure
function is in agreement with the nonrelativistic calculations.
