Two methods which examine interferometric speckel in binary stars are presented. The first, an optical conversion method, employs a monochromatic filter to capture images during an exposure time between 1/50 and 1/1000 of a second. Position angles are then obtained by comparing this image with a known angle-position image. The second method uses an autocorrelation function for electronic calculations to treat the images in real time. For both methods, it must be noted that a 180 degree ambiguity exists which can be avoided only by visual observation or by predetermining orbital elements. Example observations are given such as those of visually close couples, hidden couples, and spectroscopic and astrometric binaries (Capella, Eta Orionis, and Xi Cephei). It is concluded that these studies have contributed to a better understanding of, in particular, visual binaries and spectroscopic binaries, and that this method can be improved for further studies.
