The problem of proton energy deposition in N2 has been studied by using the more appropriate differential ionization and stripping cross sections. In particular, the loss function and secondary electron spectrum have been calculated. It is found that the shape of the differential cross section has a strong bearing on the loss function and secondary electron spectrum.
