There currently exists no practical theory of the coupling between solar nonradial pulsations and convection. An attempt is presently made to formulate a theory of convection sufficiently easy to perturb so that its application to the solar case will yield the requisite statistical data on the amplitudes and coherence times of the solar oscillations. Viewed as an inverse problem, the theory will also put constraints on the structure and behavior of the solar interior.
