An astronomy laboratory course is described in which the distinctive features are strong student involvement in the process of astronomical measurement, specific definition of behavior which is to be expected from the student at the completion of each portion of his laboratory work, and a high degree of flexibility in the individual selection of goals by the student. Specific examples of the approach are given, and an exact outline of the entire course is presented.
