In the context of the standard model of big bang nucleosynthesis (SBBN), deuterium is the ideal baryometer. The baryon density of the Universe determined via primordial deuterium must be consistent with measures of the baryon density inferred from the other cosmological parameters. Data from the Lyα forest and from X-ray clusters will be used in concert with SBBN to place constraints on the total mass density, as well as on the amount of dark baryons in the Universe. Since the estimate of the primordial abundance of deuterium derived from QSO absorption lines remains unsettled, joint constraints on the key cosmological parameters which are independent of SBBN will also be presented.
