The construction of a space qualified atomic hydrogen maser to be flown on Eureca 3 in a technology demonstration experiment is addressed. The basic issues in the design of the physics package at the feasibility level are discussed. The main topics are the choice of the microwave resonator, the choice of the basic operational parameters, the hydrogen storage, distribution and pumping, the magnetic shielding, and the storage bulb coating. Foreseeable critical issues are the mechanical thermal and magnetic designs.
