In the context of grand unified theories we study the generation of the baryon asymmetry of the Universe by means of a mechanism based on baryon number nonconservation, CP-noninvariant mixing of scalar particles and violation of thermal equilibrium. We show that within the SO(10) unified model the proposed mechanism may account for the observed value of the asymmetry.
