The ballooning instability arising due to the curvature of the magnetic field in the Jovian magnetosphere and co-rotational motion of plasma particles with the planet, is investigated in this problem. The MHD equation for the system of electrons, ions and dust grains appropriate to the situation are considered. The stability condition for the ballooning mode is derived using the energy principle. The effect of dust particles is studied in destabilizing the mode.
