We examine the importance of backscattered radiation (via a radial null test field) in the Vaidya metric near zero mass and show that the backscattered radiation for an outgoing Vaidya metric becomes blueshifted without bound. The Vaidya metric cannot, therefore, physically model the late stages of radiating gravitational collapse to zero mass.
