We request time on WIYN and the 0.9-m telescopes to obtain velocity and light curves of more than 40 RR Lyrae variables in the globular cluster M 3. The Baade-Wesselink method will be used to determine independent luminosities for these RR Lyraes. Effective temperatures will be determined from the H(beta) profiles and surface gravities from photometry of the Balmer jump. We will directly compare the Baade- Wesselink luminosities with the accurate relative luminosities determined from photometry to see how well the method works to calibrate the absolute magnitudes of RR Lyrae stars. From the absolute magnitudes of the RR Lyrae stars, we can also get an independent assessment of how well theoretical stellar models reproduce the main sequence luminosity.
