Brans and Dicke (1961) proposed that Einstein's theory of gravitation be replaced by the scalar-tensor theory which, along with space-time curvature, includes an additional scalar gravitational field and an interaction constant. This paper examines the axisymmetric static solution of the gravitational equation proposed by Brans and Dicke for flattened bodies (e.g., galaxies), and attempts to clear up certain problems associated with the axisymmetric solutions of the Einstein gravitational equations.
