After a brief review of the axion solution of the strong CP problem, its
supersymmetric extension and the superstring axions are discussed. The
solutions of the μ problem in supergravity models are reviewed with
an emphasis on the symmetry principle. The author also includes an
estimate of the axion mass in the effective field theory framework.
