We examine the role of axionic charge upon gravitational collapse. In a simplified model it is shown that the homogeneous and isotropic contraction of an FRW model eventually becomes ``shear'' dominated if axionic charge is taken into consideration. The spacetime is timelike future geodesically incomplete and the final curvature singularity becomes considerably stronger than the corresponding uncharged FRW isotropic singularity.
