An automatic instrument for visual tracking of satellites is described which makes it possible to record on perforated tape a few hundred observations on one satellite track. The TZK instrument, with range of vision of 7 deg and 10X magnification, was automated by replacing the standard horizontal and vertical circles for the nonius reading with capacitance angle converters. Small angle changes are measured by using rectilinear segments of the capacitance diagram of two coaxially mounted converters.
