A method for obtaining auroral particle energy spectra and fluxes is proposed which employs electron density profiles measured during disturbed conditions. These spectra are used to determine the relationship of an energy parameter to the Hall conductance/Pederson conductance ratio, an indicator of particle hardness. The results are found to agree well with previous theoretical and experimental results, and to be consistent with what would be expected if Maxwellian electron fluxes were responsible for the particle precipitation.
