Using Wood's model we have analysed Lorenzi's photoelectric light-curve - as yet unsolved - of the single-lined spectrum eclipsing binary AU Mon. Photometric elements have been obtained. The B5 (hotter and brighter) primary tums out to be considerably smaller than its cooler F-type companion, which fills its Roche lobe for plausible values of the mass ratio (q ˜ 0.2).
Estimates of the absolute elements of AU Mon, based on an assumed primary mass of about 6Msun, reveal that the primary is a main sequence star, whilst the secondary is distinctly oversized and overluminous for its mass and spectral type, as commonly found for the post-mass exchange cooler remnants of Algols. AU Mon appears to be an ordinary semidetached system which has probably undergone case B mass transfer.
