New observations of the tropospheric attenuation at frequencies of 0.408 and 1.407 GHz have been carried out by a source extinction method. A refraction correction, which has previously been overlooked or made in the wrong sense, is discussed. Estimates of this correction for previous work indicate that agreement is now obtained between theoretical and experimental values of the attenuation over the range of frequency from 0.4 to 10 GHz.
