The calculation of stellar opacities requires atomic data for all dipole allowed transitions in elements of significant stellar abundance. Errors associated with these atomic data should be less than 10%. Data for the H-, He- and Li- isoelectronic sequences have been published and this paper discusses their merits. Reliable data for iron ions are particularly scarce as they are very difficult to calculate. This paper discusses the first close-coupling calculations for Fe VIII and Fe VII that include the configurations and terms that contribute most to electron correlation. Some illustrative results are given.
