The contribution of global atmospheric pressure variations to local gravity is evaluated, using the atmospheric load gravity Green's functions for a column load of a model atmosphere on a spherical elastic earth, computed for values of phi (phi = distance on the sphere) from 0.00001 to 180 deg. It was found that the Green functions are relatively insensitive to the detail of the model atmosphere, but are affected by the temperature at the base of the column and by the relative height difference between the base of the column and the gravity station. Atmospheric pressure was found to influence local gravity at about 20 microgal level, of which about 90 percent is produced by the atmosphere within 50 km of the gravity station. Since most of the signal comes from within 50 km of the gravimeter, atmospheric pressure within this local zone is essentially uniform, so that a single barometer at the gravimeter site will characterize well the gravity signal from this zone.
