Neutrino Mass And Mixing

Scientific paper

Underground atmospheric neutrino measurements over a broad range of energies indicate a lower rate of νμ interactions than predicted from the calculated fluxes. In addition, the angular distribution of νμ events inside the detectors and entering from the surrounding rock is inconsistent with expectation. Neutrino oscillation (νμ-->ντ or νμ-->νsterile) with maximal mixing and Δm2~few×10-3 (eV)2 appears to provide a consistent explanation of the data.
