^13N(p,γ)^14O is one of the key reactions which trigger the onset of the hot CNO cycle. This transition occurs when the proton capture rate on ^13N is faster, due to increasing stellar temperature, than the ^13N β-decay rate. The rate of this reaction is dominated by the resonant capture through the first excited state of ^14O (resonance enrgy E_r=0.528 MeV). However through interference of direct and resonance components of the astrophysical S factor, direct capture below the resonance makes a non-negligible contribution. However, the sign of this interference has not yet been determined. We have determined this direct contribution by measuring the asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC) for proton removal from ^14O. In this talk we demonstrate how to infer the sign of interference term even in the absence of direct measurements. The resonant amplitude can be separated into internal and channel (external) components. At energies below the resonance, the channel part, which depends on the ANC, has the same sign as the nonresonant amplitude leading to constructive interference.
