Average yearly data from 18 magnetic stations (nine in the Northern Hemisphere and nine in the Southern Hemisphere) for 1915-1976 are used to analyze the westward drift of two quasi-eccentric dipoles which have magnetic moments perpendicular to the earth's polar axis. This model is used to examine differences in the westward drift of the geomagnetic field in the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere. It is shown that the drift in the Northern Hemisphere was often greater than that in the Southern Hemisphere.
