It is shown that the appearance of an asymmetry in the diurnal variation of E-region electron density at solar zenith angles greater than 60 deg is due to the conventional method of calculating zenith angles from the mean solar time. This method is insufficiently accurate. When the true solar time, determining the position of the sun above the horizon, is used, the asymmetry at large zenith angles does not occur.
