Cepheids: Metal Lines
Scientific paper
A program of high resolution spectroscopic observations of Cepheids has been carried out at Mt John University Observatory for several years. Radial velocities and asymmetries have been measured for selected metallic lines. Attempts have been made to model these observations. Model atomspheres based on "snapshots" of the atmosphere of a hydrodynamic model have been converged. These models have been used to calculate synthetic line profiles for which radial velocities and asymmetries have been measured. The profiles have also been used to calculate projection factors which best fit the pulsational velocities in the hydrodynamic model.
