Satellite data are used to study aperiodic Dst(LT) variations for different sectors of local time. It is shown that the field asymmetry of Dst(LT) variations is associated with the prolonged injection of plasma into the ring current region. Results on three magnetic storms are used to investigate the basic characteristics of the asymmetric development and decay of the field of this magnetospheric ring current.
