Asymmetric and shifted line profiles have been calculated for hydrogen L(sub alpha) and L(sub Beta) within the static ion approximation. The variation of the electronic shift and width over the profile also has been included. The shifts and asymmetry parameters determined from these profiles agree well with available experimental data. It has been shown that discrepancies between theoretical and experimental shifts vanish if the same definition is applied for both.
