Resampling an image is a standard operation used in astronomical imaging for various tasks: changing the scale of an image to superimpose it on another, shifting an image by a non-integer offset, rotating an image by an arbitrary angle, or deforming an image to counter detector or optical deformations, are the usual operations in need of image resampling. In a more general way, this operation is referred to as image warp - ing in the digital image processing world.
