The author presents the results of a multiplicity survey of X-ray-selected T Tauri stars in the nearby star-forming regions Taurus-Auriga and Scorpius-Centaurus. All of the stars were observed at K (2.2 μm) using 2-dimensional speckle interferometry and direct imaging. The observations of 74 stars in Taurus-Auriga were sensitive to all companions in the separation range 0.13″ to 13″ and up to a magnitude difference of 2.5mag. He discovered 39 companion stars. Combined with the results of the preceding survey by Leinert et al. (1993), he finds 48.3±5.3 companions per 100 systems. The author finds no difference in the multiplicity of classical and weak-line T Tauri stars. The observations of 111 stars in Scorpius-Centaurus were sensitive to all companions in the separation range 0.13″ to 3″ and up to a magnitude difference of 2.0mag. He discovered 34 companion stars, corresponding to (27.1±5.0) companions per 100 systems. The author proposes that the observed difference in multiplicity is caused by different environmental conditions in the two star-forming regions.
