The performance of different astrometric and photometric estimators is studied with the purpose of optimizing the evaluation of photon counts from the TYCHO space astrometry experiment on board the HIPPARCOS satellite. Theoretical values of the performance are confirmed by numerical simulations. A numerical filter method is developed to solve the normal equations of the Maximum-Likelihood method. This method requires orders of magnitude less computing time than the exact method.
