ALI’I has been a summer program designed to excite secondary school teachers about astrobiology, the search for life in the universe, being integrated into all science courses. The theme of search for water has resulted in discussions of science topics such as physics and chemistry of ice, evidence of ice on Mars and planetary moons. To demonstrate how science can be related to the humanities, the cultural aspects of the stewardship of water rights by the Native Hawaiians have been presented as well as Hawaiian archeoastronomy. The diversity of teachers from continental US and Hawaii with varied science backgrounds has enriched the experience for all participants. Curriculum activities, classroom implementation and evaluation results will be shared. This program has been supported by the NASA Astrobiology program.
