The hypothesis that the source of the Geminid meteor stream is the asteroid Phaethon is examined. The similarities in the orbits of the stream and the asteroid, the way in which comets produce meteoroids, and the evolution of the Geminid stream are examined. A table is presented of meteor streams and the comets with which they are associated. The possibility that Phaethon is the nucleus of an extinct comet rather than an asteroid is considered.
