We propose to observe the 3-mm thermal lightcurves of Vesta and Ceres, and do 3-mm photometry of Pallas and other large asteroids. This wavelength is short enough that asteroids are bright and long enough that the atmosphere is becoming transparent, for accurate photometry. This is part of a larger program to study thermophysical properties of these asteroids. The ultimate goal of the program is to relate thermal flux measurements and properties with locations on the asteroid surfaces, some of which have been mapped coarsely in Hubble Space Telescope (HST) images. Correlations with surface features requires resolving the thermal flux with rotation, or observing the thermal lightcurve. We will be also testing the suitability of Mopra for this style of continuum observation. We request a total of 84 hours in 3 blocks: two blocks, each of 30 hours to observe the lightcurves of Vesta and then Ceres, and a third block of 24 hours for millimeter photometry.
